Each line of Bob Dylan's song "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" is actually the first line of a song he never wrote.  Yet together they make a single story.  Work has brought me to the United Kingdom for a year, starting in February 2008.  These are the stories of my life and times here, woven together into one tale.

Column Summary:  February 1 - Old  Sarum
February 1, 2009 - Old Sarum

Having read Sarum, I wanted to see Old Sarum north of Salisbury.  To get there I walked a couple of miles north along the Avon River, and then up the hill that it's built on.  There's not much left, and by that, I mean only a few foundations remain.  Old Sarum was destroyed for building materials.  I definitely have an understanding of its size and defensive advantage now.  It was also cold and windy.  I wouldn't say it's the first thing someone should visit in England, but it shouldn't disappoint a fan.
