February 1, 2009 - Old Sarum
Having read Sarum, I
wanted to see Old Sarum north of Salisbury. To get
there I walked a couple of miles north along the Avon River,
and then up the hill that it's built on. There's not
much left, and by that, I mean only a few foundations
remain. Old Sarum was destroyed for building
materials. I definitely have an understanding of its
size and defensive advantage now. It was also cold and
windy. I wouldn't say it's the first thing someone
should visit in England, but it shouldn't disappoint a fan.
